Dr. Mark Douglass is a conductor, composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and educator whose career bridges the worlds of classical, jazz, contemporary, and commercial music. Equally at home on the concert stage, in the recording studio, and in the classroom, he is passionate about creating musical experiences that connect performers and audiences alike.

His compositions have been performed internationally in orchestral and choral concerts, recitals, award-winning films, and on PBS. His music has appeared at venues and festivals including Carnegie Hall, the Detroit Jazz Festival, the Bourbon Jazz Festival in Paraty, Brazil, the New Names Creative Arts Camp in Togliatti, Russia, Wayne State University's Breaking New Ground series, and Universidade Estadual Paulista in São Paulo, Brazil. His music has been praised as "exquisite works of art; intimate and full of color and nuance." — Hila Pitman, Grammy Award-winning soprano.

As a conductor, Douglass serves as Music Director of the Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra and has led orchestras, wind ensembles, jazz ensembles, and choirs at the collegiate, community, church, and school levels. He believes the human voice remains our most powerful instrument for building community and telling meaningful stories. Throughout his career, he has rebuilt and developed both choral and instrumental programs, helping musicians discover artistic expression and the joy of making music together. His rehearsals emphasize musical excellence, curiosity, collaboration, and genuine human connection.

An active educator, Douglass is Associate Professor of Music and Orchestra Director at Goshen College and also serves on the music faculty at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. His teaching has included conducting, music production, songwriting, world music, history of popular music, music education, and multimedia. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education in vocal and instrumental music, a Master of Music in Performance from the University of Tennessee, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance and Composition from the University of North Texas.

Douglass is also an original member of ConTempus Initiative, a Michigan-based contemporary music collective dedicated to making new music engaging and accessible through innovative collaborative performances.
